I don't think there is much I disagree with you. You are right about most things. Especiallly, that it is not an exact science. A lot depends upon how many applicants there are, and how many numbers are increased, and how much the country limits are increased by.
I also don't think that the country limits will go away totally. They will probably just increase them. But you never know. Espeically, because at some point, they will go to the point system, and then who knows whats going to happen to us.
Also, its not that I am concerned about what is GOOD JUST FOR ME. (BTW, its not just me, its about a third of IV) I am more worried about what is bad for me.
Again, there are no guarantees which of the 3 will get passed or accepted. 1 & 2 benefit you more than 3. Will be combined effect of those be more than enough to offset 3 (which I doubt will ever happen since that will require a change in law) is up to anyone's imagination.
Will you stop supporting IV which is trying to improve ALL legal immigrants prospects of getting a green card because one item on their agenda MAY DO more harm to you than good is your prerogative.
However, IMHO saying that 3 hurts you and hence you will not support IV is the same as those people who in July were crying because everyone was getting to file 485s and hence would lengthen the GC processing queue. I was in fact not benefiting too much from that but I supported it since having been in the queue for long enough I know how painful it is.
Like lot of other people on this forum said, try to rise above what is GOOD FOR ME and I will only support IV if it does ONLY that. Someday there might be a law that affects you more than the majority and you will need the all legal immigrants voice to help you out.

USCIS was trying to abolish this substitution. The lawyer lobby opposed it.
How do lawyers benefit from it? Thanks.

Dilip,
I can Understand your frustration in this matter. Before blaming on the H1B Quota, we need to think of the grand schema in which this happens. USA is now well known as the only superpowerin this world. Lets take the example of the super-powers in history, Rome and Britain. As Ravi Batra in one of his books said, both of them had some common factors being a super power
1) Military Power: Both these empires had the best Military in the world. They could use the military to make many of their provinces and colonies to accept their terms in doing business
2) Both Rome and Britain used to run on trade deficits. This is because, every other countries( or colonies) were producing goods just to be sold in these empires. Their currency was the most sought after one and powerful elites wanted to hoard as much as they can.Since everybody were having so much currency, they didnt want the super-powers currency to decline in Value( which they reinvested in rome or britain to get more)
3) Cheap Labour:Rome used Slaves to control the commodity price. The living standards of Romans were the best and people even voluntarly enrolled as slaves just to get a roman citizenship after some years. The wage of common people on Rome or Britain never rose, but so did the price of commodities. Britain didnt use slaves, but used the people from its colonies to do the work. Most of them did this voluntarily for a better pay. They used highly-skilled as well as unskilled workers from their colony with less wage to keep the price of commodity stable and cheap .They even enrolled these people to their military to fight wars.
4) Spreading of culture and language to its colonies: Youth were attracted to their culture and it was easy to spread.Elites in these countries liked it and used to send gifts to the ruling guys. Elites were able to create more jobs , to produce more goods and services for the superpowers and that kept the ruling elites to be accepted, for some posts, re-elected and even workshipped by common man.
These are the common character of an economic(military in case of rome and britain) super power. So if me or you or anyone among us fight against this cheap labour concept, we are not going to win. Its a character of this market and will continue

Leave it to us 'Skilled' folks to shred an idea before implementing it. What is the harm in mailing out a letter. We tend to focus on bringing out the negatives and keep discussing issues till the train passes us by.
The bailout plan is a short window of opportunity, what is wrong in sending out some emails, we are not the only ones doing this there are hundreds of organizations trying to get their word in edgewise.
(I for one am even willing to write a proposal to 'buy' a GC, if EB applicant is waiting for more than 5 yrs since his/her PD, they can pay 10-15 grand to fast track application irrespective of the fact that the PD is current or not. USCIS stands to make 2 billion. I prefer paying 10k to uscis instead of the yearly drain towards my lawyers SLK.)
Anyways the point i am trying to make is that for this particular issue send out the letter, ask others to do the same and then discuss the merits of the letter. As the moderator mentions the window of opportunity is very small. Since you will be sending out your own letters, you can include any text to include current home owners or include only US educated or only EB 2 I etc ;)
well said sayantan..
This whole idea of linking GC to probable purchasing homes..is insane!
it stops short of black mailing...

Breddy2000 and dealsnet,
I hope you guys don’t owe anything to YSR!.
If you love YSR, that’s your business. As much as you love, facts are facts and YSR being CM for 5 years is the biggest loss to AP and people of AP.
Also, it’s a curse that India and Indians are paying to have had congress rule India for 60 years.
"_TrueFacts". You are entitled to your opinion and I'm entitled to mine.
The fact of the matter is you are misusing your IV ADMIN Previledges to prove your point....
And I must say I have lost all faith in you being a Senior Member of IV.
I don't damn care about what you think....It's more about your behaviour that astonished me....You have been reported to "Admin".
If they do not care much about it and losing you is a loss to IV, then be it.....But facts remain that you have compromised on someone's identity in public forum with your previledges.
And I very well know that your other handle is "CHANDUV23". I don't care if I'm banned from IV.

You have to look at the context in which my comments were made. Somebody said that H4 spouses go to college and pay instate fees but they have to pay international fees. I never said that ROW people do not have any of those problems but it just that we have to endure that for some more years. Having said that, I reiterate that I want my GC fast but not at the expense of ROW people. They do not have to endure a longer wait.
I thought this thread was given a decent burial, I could trust only you to bring this thread back to life with your hidden agenda of driving a wedge between Indians/Chinese and ROW.
NKR, you said u r replying to someone else.. i don't know why u then quoted me in ur message and in the end added that I didn't care about u.. is it normal that we run down each other for no reason.. what bad thing did i ever say about u..
sorry that u got the impression the thread was dead, i was away (soccer then resting u know) and came back to see someone else left me hate/curse messages, and speaking on IV's behalf and no one cared to tell him that both acts were not appropriate.. tell me why is it that u (and may be others) agree that removing the country limit is wrong and that saying some nationality is better and brighter than others is also wrong yet not one is defending me when i make those same arguments and get insulted in the process..

Just to add another dimention to this thread I will play the devil's advocate :D

We will retire early as we would make $xxxx/month for nothing when we turn 40 and dont need to work anymore where as all you guys bitching about Amway / Quixtar will still be working hard at your jobs till 60.
What's your response ?

For the past 2 years there were so many RFEs and denials and no body knew what basis. But if they bring a regulation and follow that everybody can prepare ahead and no surprises. It is not a question of making profit. They have to make profit by following law and ethics and not by using loopholes. The regulations will make the companies to follow the rules of the game. If bodyshoppers follow the law and ethics without any fraud they will become reputed companies and the regulations will not destroy them. But their profit may go down but good for everyone. Inspite of insane rules annual cap is reached even unemployment is decade high. I would term protectionist if annual cap is reduced or they make restrictions such that h1b cap usage is so low. In India best persons are available and whatever restrictions they put Indian techies will overcome unless they block it completely. 65k H1b is attached to WTO and no way they can reduce that.
snram4,
It seems you are concerned about companies making profit than what happens to you. That is a typical socialist/communist thought process. Communists/socialists are worried/jealous about companies making profit rather than their own well being. Ironically you are in the capitalist meca of the world.
If you are not fine with companies making profit, you shouldn't be here in the first place.
H1B rules are on the slavery lines already. Think about all the restrictions we have to undergo just because of H1B. Irrespective of whether H1B is allowed on consulting, consulting is here to stay in US and all over the world. If not H1B, Citizens and GC holders will do the consulting.
The only thing many of us are good at is screwing our own countrymen and colleagues. Did it ever come to your thought that existing H1B rules are insane already ?

I liked your concept of approaching "fresh law school grads" but...
If we are planning to approach with such a big task which I would think needs lot of experience in the law field and not sure if its worth taking an approach with fresh out of law school grads...I personally feel this experiment of working with fresh law school grads might be risky and I doubt if they even know any in's & out's of USCIS tricks, rules and dramas which they keep changing now & then quite often....
As always experience counts one would choose to see how much experience they have and in this case if we go with these BRAND NEW.. fresh out of law school grads who may or many not have any winning track records might be not worth it I guess..
No one would learn to walk if their parents were afraid they would fall.
The young grad has more fire in him than a seasoned vetran. I think we need more fire in this case than just experience.
