Tamils live the same life as Sinhala and Muslims, if you're visited sri lanka you would see that. Schools are open to everyone within their respective distances, tamils conduct business same as muslims and sinhala. What you're discussing is something that happened when the country was given independance and the sinhala policy came into act. This is not the case anymore in sri lanka, if it was all the tamils in the country would have moved to the north where their so called saviors were fighting.

Hi,
Mine and my spouse I-485 has been current for over two months, We are on EB1 and our I485 receipt notice date was may 8 2007. The center is currently processing aug 2007 applications. My lawyer sent an inquiry 60 days ago and there has been no response from USCIS.
Please advice what i could do to find out why my processing has been delayed.

You can call the USCIS yourself or ask your attorney to do so or make an Infopass appointment to find the status of your application.

I am just wondering.....
when will the day come when a lot of us will rush to Delhi.....braving the cold/heat....stand for hours........dancing to tunes of pop singers......while awaiting our beloved PM to show up and take oath of office........just like hundreds of thousands did when obama took office.........

I have a general question on an option in case of I-485 denial. I know that if underlying I-140 gets denied, I-485 is also denied. My question : is the vice versa true. ? If I-485 gets denied, will I-140 also gets denied.?
If I-485 is denied (AC21 issue for example), can an applicant choose Consular processing on existing I-140, assuming that it is not revoked? Just like if COS is not granted, applicant leaves country and goes to consulate for stamping ?

Tamils are totally discriminated in our so called Home land, I support Prabhakaran to bring Elam that brings relief to Tamils in India, We denounced India long back,, 35 yrs back terrorist Bal Thackeray killed Tamils (for his cheap politics) in Mumbai, then Karnataka (they are incomparable with trash) . I am using DOS visa statistics and I arrived at EB quota numbers for 2008 as 162,707. There were 22,707 unused FB visa's in 2007 based on the DOS visa statistics @ http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/statistics/statistics_1476.html
Typically the actual EB quota for the FY is revised in the September bulletin. I am not sure if DOS has already taken into account the new EB quota number for the Aug bulletin. If they hadn't taken into account the new quota number then we should see some forward movement in the Sep bulletin.
However the 28,795 AC-21 recaptured visa's U are talking about has already been used in 2002, please take a look at the below mentioned link for details regarding the usage of those visa's.

Circus123 & Bestia thanks 4 the quik answers to my first post on this site; By now I just read & learned a lot from this site about GC process.Now it's time to take action because we have a PD current.
I just wanna be sure about the dates 'cause I cannot rely on my layer 100% because last year he insisted on completing our files 4 GC but he "forgot" 2 mention that our PD is nou current yet!!!
We'll send the cheques tomorrow!
I can hardly wait to get my EAD so I can apply 4 a decent job!!!!!!
Any idea if it takes longer than 90 days?

well, the people who are in eb3 and cannot do anything about it, for reasons that you quoted, i agree, it is a pity. but, you know what, "life is not fair".
Yes life is not fair but when we get a chance to be fair we (And that includes me also) let it go by.
it is a good thing u worry about others, and want to help them. however, when u look at those bills you mentioned and none getting passed. yes, it may look like a waste to do anything. however, we need to keep trying. with the limited resources we have, i think we should focus on "things/bills/issues" the IMPACT most people. doing something only for eb3 or eb2, in my opinion, would be even more difficult, given the progress legal immigration has made in this country. so, may be, u cud help in getting the things done that impact more people.
What i porposed was doing something in the DV bill for badly retrogressed applicants (There wil be no reference to EB3 or EB2). Now the fact that this might help EB3 is because EB3 is the most badly retrogressed section.
and it is ur decision not to go eb2 (even, with the resources you mentioned). have to admit, thats strange. may be u r like me, who is not obsessed with a gc. however, we live in a society, in a system (however flawed it may be), and we all try to live by those rules, try to use opportunities that are available legally and make our lives, a little better.
You know what i was tempted to do EB2 but my sense of right and wrong prevented me. My mess up the already loaded and unstable system with another app when i already have one. Now for persons who are in EB3 (Please remove me from the equation) are thier not because they wanted to but because of the way thei whole immigration crap has evolved. Sure porting will help me out and i wil not need to justify this to anyone else but i will have to face myself. I know most people do not get it. It is doing right.
i came to this country in 1999, i have a MS, PHD from a reputed Comp Sci program. Many people who (still) dont know much about Computer Sci. came into the dept, got their MS and have been very successful, making tons of money. i am a guy whose bs, ms and phd is in Comp Sci. i think u will find may 2 or 3 guz out of may 10, who have a degree in CS, particularly in the undergrad. i used to be very mad at all the electrical, mechanical etc guz getting software jobs. i used to hate almost all software professionals coz i thought i had to work very had for my ranks, on my gpa and on my degrees and see there are people who are making as much as i do, with none of that. slowly, but surely, i have come to terms that "life is not fair" and then, what if fellow human beings can get good jobs, whats wrong with that?? is how i started to see it, (as long as they are good enough).

Thank you for your personal opinion. India was doing well when Vajpayee was PM. He is not some management honcho. It is a vision of the person that is more important. Manmohan is a learned man and has provided country with real good service but real power rests with Sonia and her son Rahul.
Hence. Its a question of ideology in the long run and given my background, BJP govt suits me better than Congress. So I prefer Advani over Sonia.
I am not sure what vision Mr.Advani has for India. May be at this age he might have better vision than other people in the same league.

The BJP is the only party that can lead India in a sane manner. The various issues that stand before India :
- Free market reform that has been strangled by the communists and congress
- National security . For the congress and other so called secular forces - criticizing terrorism/pakistan is tantamount to criticizing Islam. They jail Varun Gandhi for making divisive comments(agreed that the comments are in bad taste) but what about the Imam Bukharis and Mulayam singhs who make divisive comments every single day.
- The concept of nationalism and pride was first felt during the years when Vajpayee was PM. To be honest I never felt proud to be Indian until AB Vajpayee became PM
- Infrastructure development. The BJP is more free market than any other party. the Vajpayee administration started so many infrastructure schemes like the golden quadrilateral national highway and various others.
- The BJP is the only party with true nationalists. You may blame them for being right wing hindus but they have more secular credentials than the congress or other so called secular forces. I think IV should get a new law introduced which changes the surplus visa trickle down policy so that equal number or visas gets distributed between EB3 & EB2. This law will have maximum possibility of getting passed.

Leave it . That law is the law. Of course it did hurt EB3 but what it did is take the unfair benefit that EB3 was getting because of wrong interpetation of the law. No all that is water under the bridge.

I dont care if anyone cares for me or not peronally or w.r.t. what i have stated in this forum.
If people abuse that is their problem not mine. Sure i wil lfeel bad but it would be feeling bad for them not feel bad :P
If people do not agree with me that is also ok since that is their right
If people do not care for what i am saying that is also ok because the whle idea is that people on thsi forum start thinking about all options (Out of te box solutions)
And seriopusly my friend if my intention was to convert or sway a whole bunch of people (Which i have no Intention of doing) within a day that would not be much of a challenge right ? because nothing comes for free (read that as without effort) in this country. I believe that is one of the slogans of IV. And guys i just borrowed it so dont hit on me saying i am now using IV slogans for myself

Does anyone have a comment on this ?
I do have my CA PR. Waiting for US GC, my CA PR clock is ticking. Once I am more than 3 years past in the CA PR card and if I still dont go to CA, I understand that my CA PR may not be renewed. My question is : Is is possible to at least enter CA for the last (during 5th) year of CA PR ? Also is it possible to re-apply for the CA PR once I am say 4 years done in my CA PR life without entering CA ? Gurus , please shed some light.
On another note : I would request no one to make offensive remarks about a great country like Canada. It may not have as many opportunities as US has or be a lot more restricitve in providing licensure to some professionals, but please bear in mind that it has provided respect to some of us by making some of us it PR .... which the great US is still to bestow on us. Even when we have not contributed a single cent to CA or its economy while we have earned/contributed millions to the US / its economy.

I am currently on OPT which is valid till July 2009. Also, my H1-B is approved through a company X starting oct 2008. Currently I got a job with company Y on my OPT. Can I continue to work on my OPT with company Y till July 2009? OR Do I need to transfer my H1B to company Y to be able to continue to work after Oct 2008?

So regardless of what August bulletin says, USCIS can just, on a whim stop accepting 485 petitions in Mid July just because they have received "Too many" and the mail room clerk is tired ? I dont know but it really does not sound like something USCIS can do on a whim without publishing a change in the rule first.
I agree with you. To bring the dates back USCIS would have to accept application for atleast next 2 weeks. Then, they will have to open and count all the application based on country. After that, they will calculate Aug/mid-July retrogression date. It does not sound like they will do it in mid-july, but for august they can do whatever they want in their visa bulletien.
This is jusy my assessment. I didn't get this from anywhere.
